40 Days 2013

This series of drawings was made during Lent 2013, one drawing each day. Based on a grid of 40 rectangles, working only in graphite and an eraser, the grid is sometimes the whole drawing, at other times it breaks up, and sometimes disappears altogether.  Working with repetition and erasure the process was a means of marking the time.  The work became a material reminder of my presence in the studio at a particular time of personal reflection.  It explores the Lenten themes of repetition, ritual, and loss. Below is a selection of drawings.

The drawings were exhibited at St Marys Church Weston Colville during Lent 2014.
